there is talk of a few farmers coming to this area in the late 1800's, but the area was "hilly" and slow to be developed; then talk of cleveland university but a short lived, failed venture. The area was first settled by Western Reserve families with means and money. Then, out of the blue, ethnic groups arrived to work in factories??? When exactly did the factories pop-up? When did Grace Hospital pop-up? Where did the connecticut yankees go?? They built churches that were simply taken over by immigrants??? Why so many taverns, why a population density of over 140 per sq mile, with much less in other parts of city? Was this simply a "company town" that became somewhat liveable when reds/socialists started clamoring for a liveable environment? Read about the early 1900's socialist/worker movements in cleveland and connect the times to some of the community improvements made in Tremont. Overall there are large pieces missing to this history...wish you could have included more. The oral histories show people somewhat cut-off in their enclaves. Very little talk or awareness of politics.
